Battle of the Books is a Westchester-wide competition where teams read the same set of books then face-off in a trivia competition about those books. The day of this year’s Battle is Saturday, October 26th, 2024 at Ossining High School.
Kim is coaching the Grades 6-12 team. The grade is what you are entering in the fall of 2024.
Here are the book selections:
Gr 6 - 12:
- Only a Monster by Vanessa Len - paranormal romance - a sixteen-year-old girl goes to London for the summer to stay with her family only to learn that they're monsters and she must embrace her own monstrousness to save them.
- We Deserve Monuments by Jas Hammonds - LGBTQ contemporary romance/ mystery - A seventeen-year-old girl is sent to live with her hostile grandmother in a small town where insidious racist secrets threaten the relationships she builds.
- Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz - LBTQ contemporary romance - Two boys who couldn't be more different develop a special bond that helps them overcome hurdles.
- Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger - fantasy/mystery - A Lipan Apache teenage girl lives in an alternative America that has magic and monsters and where her cousin is murdered.
- Gideon Green in Black and White by Katie Henry - contemporary mystery - A sixteen-year-old amatuer detective is obsessed with film noir and finds himself in the middle of a real-life mystery.
